Our Afternoon at the North Central Animal Shelter

This past Saturday, our team went out on an adventure to the North Central Animal Shelter here in Los Angeles.

We gathered a group of 25 volunteers and head over to the shelter to do some good. The day started with an orientation so we could learn the ins and outs of the shelter, what to expect, and what some of our responsibilities would be.

Once we were well acquainted with their facility, the jobs were handed out! Some of us were in the Cat room with all the kitties. Some of our responsibilities included cleaning out the kitty crates, laying fresh newspaper out for the crates, and prepping food for the doggos, amongst others!

After all the work was done, we were able to surprise the staff at the shelter with a box of dog toys! These animals crave so much love, it was such a bittersweet feeling to watch their faces light up as we walked past their crates.

This shelter is largely understaffed, 7 staff members to care for over 300 animals. If you are in the area, please consider lending a hand to them. The shelter is currently under construction and working on a better facility for the animals to live in, however, in their current condition, it is hard for the animals to get out. How often they get to get out of their cages really depends on how many volunteers are able to take them out.

We are looking forward to our next trip back here to once again spend some time with these cuties. Big shout out to the North Central Animal Shelter for allowing us to join them on their very busy weekend. We hope to make this a regular event!
